Here's your daily dose of inspiration - the amazing Alyssa Seckinger-Crow, a year 12 student and captain of her school Albert Park College in Victoria, is about to undertake an extremely arduous adventure for a very special cause. In September, she'll be completing the English Channel Swim (considered the Everest of swimming) solo to raise funds for the the World Wide Fund for Nature Australia (WWF), dedicating her swim to saving and raising awareness of the declining Koala population in Australia.
As an ocean-lover and long distance swimmer, Alyssa has achieved a number of accolades in marathon swimming events including winning the 2022 24km ultramarathon swim, so she's prepared for her upcoming 35km Channel swim from England to France in 16°C. Alyssa's aim is to inspire young people to take action, frequently speaking at forums and leading campaigns and policy changes at her school towards a target of achieving net zero by the end of 2022.

During the 2020 bushfires, Alyssa and her family were evacuated from a national park they were camping at. As she looked out of the car window at the fire, Alyssa was hit by the reality that all the burning forest was filled with live, native animals. This experience and Alyssa's passion for preserving and protecting our environment is what's driving her to complete this extremely challenging swim to raise funds for the WWF Australia to help our Aussie Koalas.
In recent years, Koala numbers have fallen by a drastic 50%, recently being classified as an endangered species. As a result of the devastating Australian bushfires, much of their habitats have been left a bare, lifeless wasteland, with tree clearing nearly tripling in NSW over the last 12 months. By swimming the Channel, Alyssa aims to raise $10,000 in 4 months, with all funds going towards the WWF Australia who are doing incredible work to give injured Koalas essential medical care and helping to restore their habitat.Â
Alyssa has so far raised an incredible $4,400! If you would like to donate and help her reach her goal, please head to her GoFund Me page. Let's get behind Alyssa and support this very important cause! đ¨đđ
