What is the FINIS Duo MP3 Player?
It's like a gadget straight out of a Bond Film. This is a music player that is so clever it doesn't even have headphones. The unit has pads that attach to your goggles and these pads transmit music using bone conduction so you hear music that is crystal clear in the water. What that means is this ingenious two-piece design beams your favourite tracks through your cheekbones straight into your inner ear!
The Duo stores and plays MP3 music files. Most downloaded songs can be converted to MP3 format using iTunes. Up to 1,000 songs can be stored on the Duo and music is loaded via an easy drag-and-drop process using the Duo charging cable and any computer.
How does the FINIS Duo MP3 player deliver music underwater?
You are probably thinking, “Electricity and water don’t go together too well. How do you ACTUALLY prevent water from entering the headphones?” Well, thanks to something called hydrophobic coating, music in the water is possible. The coating repels water particles by having a low-energy surface that promotes the formation of water beads that resist and glide off the unit's surface.
That said, it is important to note the difference between water-resistant and waterproof. Water-resistant devices come with a rating of IPX3 to IPX7, with an increasing amount of resistant to droplets and sprays of moisture. On the other hand, waterproof devices are rated IPX7 to IPX9k. They allow for full immersion in water with increasing depth and time. The Duo is IPX8.
